National Apprenticeship Week 2025
Employers, apprentices and training providers will come together from 10 to 16 February 2025 to showcase the benefits of apprenticeships and opportunities available.
This 5-week course is aimed at adults who wish to develop Maths computational skills and written methods at Level 1 without using a calculator. On this non-accredited course, you will explore a range of interesting, real-life applications of maths. It will build your confidence in non-calculator maths and help orient you towards a Functional Skills Maths Level 1 qualification.
You must be aged 19 and over by the 31st of August 2024. You must complete an Initial Assessment which identifies Level 1 maths needs. A recent Entry 3 qualification may enable learners to enrol for this course level. You will also need to have, or be working towards, Level 1 English language skills for maths problem solving tasks at this level.
Yes. There will be an online or face to face interview with a tutor where you will complete short maths exercises and discuss if the course will meet your needs. If the course is not suitable, the tutor will advise you on a more suitable course to apply for.
This course will be taught onsite in a face-to-face setting. However, occasionally you will be able to attend lessons online if a situation prevents you from attending onsite. For all learners, the course will consist of input sessions, group tutorials, independent exercises, group tasks and quizzes as set by your tutor. You will use MS Teams for Education to access class materials, instructions and resources. You will also be using BKSB online learning tool for assessments and using Maths resources.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course. At the end of the course, you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will decide individual learning goals with your tutor and see your progress over the term by keeping a folder of work and using the BKSB platform.
You will be able to talk to your tutor in one-to-one meetings about your learning during tutorials. Your tutor will ask for your feedback as a group at different times during the session and in course reviews. You will be able to formally record your views on the course at the end by completing an evaluation form. You may also complete GLA & OFSTED surveys.
You will be encouraged to enrol onto a course working towards a Level 1 accreditation or vocational course or to a Building confidence in Maths course for further improving your maths computational skills or to undertake paid or voluntary work.
It is very important for you to access your classes regularly. If you are unable to access a class, please notify your tutor. If you do not come to classes during the first week or fail to attend for two consecutive classes without informing your tutor, you may lose your place of study. If you want to progress to the Functional skills accreditation, you will need to demonstrate your commitment by attending punctually and completing the required work.
This course is for adult learners who need to undertake a Functional Skills accreditation in Maths Level 1 to help them progress in work or study.
