Throughout the year hundreds of residents, schools and community groups reclaim their neighbourhoods by getting involved in litter picks and clean ups.
This year’s campaign will kick off by participating in Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean starting on 17 March-2 April.
In a recent survey, 87% of residents said they would like to do more in their local area to make Haringey a greener and cleaner place for everyone to live.
Individuals, groups, businesses and schools can now register their interest to take part. To support residents, the council will provide free gloves and bags and volunteers will be able to borrow litter pickers to help spruce up their local park, street, community areas, estates or wildlife area. We will also pick up the waste collected.
During the campaign, the council will be out on patrols and continue to fine anyone caught littering and fly-tipping across the borough.
We will also be deploying Community Payback teams across the borough to clean up specific areas of concern.
Cllr Seema Chandwani, Cabinet Member for Tackling Inequality and Resident Services, said:
We have a stunning borough with beautiful parks, a canal, castle and palace. A vast majority of residents love our borough, however, sadly there are a few who want it ruin it for everyone by dropping litter.
We’re fortunate that we have amazing residents who regularly volunteer to litter pick and those areas tend to see a reduction in littering. Community ownership and resetting the culture of what is acceptable is vitally important to tackle environmental crime.
We know more residents and groups want to get involved in reclaiming their neighbourhoods, but simply do not know where to start.
By engaging in this campaign, you will get all the equipment and support you need and this can continue throughout the year.
It can be you as an individual, your neighbours, a resident association, a school or your faith group.
Let’s keep Haringey staying beautiful for everyone to enjoy!
The Great British Spring Clean is organised by Keep Britain Tidy is now in its eighth year and sees people up and down the country come together to clean up hundreds of thousands of bags of litter.
