Marcus Garvey Library and Customer Service Centre, along with other services at Tottenham Green Pools & Fitness including the gym, studios, soft play and nursery, were reopened on Monday 17 April following closure due to an issue with electrical supply.
Following the successful reopening, Cllr Sarah Williams, Cabinet Member for Finance and Local Investment, and Cllr Zena Brabazon, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to see these vital services back up and running, and the really positive reaction from residents.
“We both visited the centre last week and it was wonderful to see so many service users welcomed back, from residents receiving help and advice from our customer service team and a library full of excited children to people queueing up to get into the gym at opening time and a packed over-50s Zumba class.
“We would like to thank all of our brilliant staff for their hard work to make the reopening such a success.
“With the services having been closed for so long, there were always likely to be some snags with reopening, such as a small leak in the library which we are now working hard to resolve. This issue was caused by vandalism to the roof - CCTV is now in place to increase security at the centre.
“We share residents’ frustration that the pools remain closed for the foreseeable future due to the highly complex repairs required to the high voltage system they rely on. We continue to work with Fusion, Thames Water and other partners to ensure that this issue is dealt with and we can reopen the pools.”
