We are pleased to announce that, following a short closure, the main pool at Park Road Pools and Fitness has reopened today. We continue to work with Fusion Lifestyle to resolve ongoing issues affecting services at Park Road and Tottenham Green leisure centres.

We know that residents are concerned about service closures and other problems affecting our leisure centres, and are providing the following update on our work to solve issues at Tottenham Green and Park Road leisure centres:

  • The main pool at Park Road Pools and Fitness has reopened today following work to clean the filters and regularise the temperature.
  • Although the diving boards are out of action, the diving pool is available for swimming. The diving boards will require major repairs, and we are looking into how we can enable this to allow them to come back into use.
  • The leak in the children’s library at Marcus Garvey Library, caused by vandalism, is not yet fixed. The Council is exploring less costly but equally effective alternative materials to repair the underlying problem.
  • The main lift at the Tottenham Green centre is still not working – we are pressing Fusion to fix this as quickly as possible and are aware the necessary replacement parts have been ordered.
  • We continue to work with Fusion and other organisations, including Thames Water, to identify the source of the water entering the plant room. The gullies, manholes and drains outside of the leisure centre have all been cleared but the problem persists. The council has organised external trial holes and further exploratory CCTV surveys.
  • Design of the complex repairs needed to the high voltage electrical circuits in the plant room for the swimming pools at Tottenham Green continues. We are working closely with Fusion on this issue and will later be reliant upon approval from UK Power Networks, the only organisation that can sign-off the electrical repairs.

Cllr Sarah Williams, Cabinet Member for Finance and Local Investment, said:

“I am pleased to see the main pool at Park Road back up and running, but remain frustrated that the closure was needed in the first place. We continue to monitor the management of the centre closely to ensure that services are open and available.

“While we were delighted to be able to reopen the library, customer service centre and other services at Tottenham Green in April, we are disappointed that some issues, such as the fault with the lift, have still not been fixed. We are pushing for this to be rectified as soon as possible so that the centre is fully accessible to all our residents.”
