Work continues at Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness and Marcus Garvey Library and Customer Service Centre to resolve issues with the high voltage electrical supply which power the pools, as well as other issues affecting services. To keep residents informed, the council is providing the following update:
- The leak in the ceiling close to the children’s library, which was caused by vandalism, has now been fixed, and work is now getting underway to make good the interior part of the ceiling which was affected.
- The lift and health suite both remain out of action. The council is working with Fusion Lifestyle to bring these back into service as soon as possible.
- The Council has undertaken exploratory work on the drains, manholes and sewers outside of the leisure centre and identified some unexpected blockages which are being cleared. However, these works have not helped to clarify the source of the water which flooded the plant room, causing the failure of the high voltage electric system. Investigations into the cause of the water ingress will proceed over the next few weeks.
- Despite this, the water ingress into the plant room has significantly reduced, allowing Fusion Lifestyle to replace some of the pumps and provide greater resilience in the event of this issue worsening.
Cllr Sarah Williams, Cabinet Member for Housing Services, Private Renters and Planning, said:
“It’s been brilliant to see residents and service users return to the library, customer service centre and other services at Tottenham Green since we reopened the centre in April. It’s clear how important these facilities are to the community, and I’m pleased that we’ve been able to resolve some of the outstanding issues, including the leak in the ceiling of the children’s library.
“We remain disappointed however, that over a month after reopening, the lift and health suite are still not operational. We are pushing Fusion Lifestyle to fix this as soon as possible, as we know how important these services are for residents, and we are adamant that all of our leisure facilities must be fully accessible to all.
“We continue to work to resolve the issue that is keeping the pools out of action. I understand the strength of feeling among residents about the length of time this is taking. We are exploring every feasible avenue to find the source of the flooding of the plant room and to bring this vital service back into operation.”
