Working closely with Veolia, the council will deploy an electric caged tipper vehicle alongside three electric sweeper barrows. Building on the success of a similar operation in Wood Green over the past 12 months, the new equipment is set to replicate the impact and efficiency seen in that area.

Engaging with residents has emphasised the importance of cleaner streets, making this new and upgraded street cleansing equipment critical to creating a borough that communities can take pride in.

This initiative reflects the council’s continued commitment to invest in new technology and equipment, addressing the challenges faced by cleansing teams and delivering cleaner streets for the community.

Cllr Seema Chandwani, Cabinet Member for Resident Services & Tackling Inequality, said:

This is a significant investment in both Tottenham and the dedicated staff working in this area.

Tottenham is a thriving community, rich with opportunities, entertainment, and iconic landmarks. It's essential that we protect it and ensure it remains a welcoming place for our residents and visitors alike.

This initiative directly addresses concerns raised during the Shaping Tottenham engagement, where issues such as cleanliness, waste, and litter were highlighted.

We are committed to continuing our work with residents, listening to their priorities, and taking action to ensure Haringey’s neighbourhoods stay clean, sustainable, and enjoyable for all.

Cllr Ruth Gordon, Cabinet Member for Placemaking, and Local Economy, said:

Every resident has the right to expect clean streets. Through our Shaping Tottenham strategy developed in collaboration with our residents, we are stepping up to the challenge.

This new equipment is a significant step forward and ensures streets and bins can be hosed down more effectively with high pressure water, which will greatly improve the look and feel of our streets.

I am extremely grateful for all our hard-working street cleansing staff. They do a brilliant job with their e-barrows so please show your appreciation when you see them.

The electric barrows will enhance the efficiency of cleansing staff, making it easier to navigate streets and transport waste. Equipped with built-in cold pressure washers, the barrows will also help tackle dirt and spillages on pavements.

The electric tipper vehicle is designed to support multiple tasks, including collecting sweeper bags, removing dumped items, and emptying new dual litter and recycling bins. Beyond its primary functions, the vehicle will clean litter bins, wash pavements, and respond rapidly to larger spillages, ensuring Tottenham’s streets are always in top condition.
