Haringey has unveiled the first phase of a landmark council housing development at the former Ashley Road Depot and welcomed Baroness Taylor of Stevenage to see the benefits it will bring to residents in the borough.

The Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Housing and Local Government joined Haringey Council Leader, Cllr Peray Ahmet on a tour of Wingspan Walk to meet some of the families set to reap the rewards of living in 91 high-quality, energy efficient homes.

Located on Park View Road, close to Tottenham Hale station, the development is transforming the former disused brownfield site into a vibrant, green residential neighbourhood.

The full scheme will provide 272 Passivhaus homes for council rent, with completion expected later this year. All homes will be allocated to residents on Haringey Council’s housing register.

The Minister’s visit to Haringey on Friday (11 July 2025) also included tours of Hale Wharf and Broadwater Farm, highlighting the scale and ambition of Haringey’s placemaking and housing delivery programme.

Cllr Peray Ahmet, Leader of Haringey Council, said:

Wingspan Walk is a fantastic example of how we’re delivering on our promise to build the council homes our residents need which are spacious, sustainable, and affordable to run.

This first phase is a major step forward in our ambitious housebuilding programme, and I’m proud to see it taking shape.  We remain firmly on track to deliver 3000 new council homes by 2031.

I’ve been especially pleased to welcome Baroness Taylor to Haringey so she can see first-hand how this and other projects in our borough are truly transforming lives.

The Wingspan Walk scheme will provide new entrances into Down Lane Park, with 74 additional trees planted on the site and shrubbery that will improve the landscape and support wildlife.

Responsibly sourced and environmentally friendly materials are being used in the construction of this Passivhaus scheme, which delivers exceptional energy efficiency, ensuring low running costs and a comfortable environment through features like high insulation, triple glazing and heat recovery ventilation.

Each block in Wingspan Walk is named after the migratory birds visiting neighbouring Tottenham Marshes from around the world.

This is one of the largest schemes in the council’s housebuilding programme and more than a third of the project will be much-needed family sized homes.

The council is on target to deliver 3,000 new council homes by 2031, with more than 2,000 already started or completed.
