The acquisition of 565 homes from a redevelopment in the High Road and nearby White Hart Lane in Tottenham will deliver 351 homes at council rent and 214 at Key Worker Living Rent.

The deal was agreed last night (10 March 2026) by the Cabinet to boost the council’s pioneering programme to deliver 3,000 council homes by 2031, with 1100 already completed.

Key worker homes for teachers, nurses, police officers, firefighters and other public servants will be capped at 40 per cent of average local key worker household incomes – significantly lower than rents in the private sector, enabling those who provide vital services to the community to live close to their workplace.

Almost 70 per cent of all the properties purchased will be family sized accommodation of two bedrooms or more as the council steadily expands the supply of good quality housing in the borough.

Cllr Sarah Williams, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, said:

The acquisition of 565 new council homes marks a significant step forward in our commitment to delivering genuinely affordable housing for Haringey residents.

I’m especially proud that this landmark purchase includes more than 200 rent capped homes for key workers—the backbone of our community—who will now have access to safe, secure, and comfortable homes in the borough they serve every day.

In the midst of a national housing crisis, the need for new council homes has never been more urgent, and we are doing everything possible to meet that challenge. For local families and key workers, moving into these high-quality, energy efficient homes will be truly life changing.

The demand for new homes has never been greater, but we remain on track to build 3,000 new council homes at council rent by 2031 and give our residents the high-quality accommodation they can be proud of.

Sustainability is central to the design of the scheme, which will use high performance insulation and glazing, a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system and renewable energy measures such solar panels to help keep household running costs low.
