Leader of Haringey Council Cllr Peray Ahmet and Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Local Economy Cllr Ruth Gordon joined the Mayor of Haringey, Cllr Ahmed Mahbub, and representatives from developers Berkeley for the significant milestone.
The new council rent homes at Bluebell House are part of Alexandra Gate in N8, which has delivered a total of 900 homes to date, including almost 400 which are affordable, along with new community facilities.
Haringey Council Leader Cllr Peray Ahmet said:
It was fantastic to visit Bluebell House to see first-hand our 46 new high quality council homes at this important development site.
Everyone should have a home that is affordable, safe, warm and comfortable. Handover of this scheme is therefore another significant milestone as we continue our efforts to deliver a new generation of 3,000 council homes by 2031 and turn the tide on the housing crisis.
Working with Berkeley, we are ensuring the new neighbourhood at Alexandra Gate is delivering family-sized council homes which sit alongside beautifully landscaped communal areas and top of the range children’s play areas.
Moving into these properties will be a fresh start for local people on our waiting list and I’m excited for their futures.
Justin Tibaldi, Managing Director at Berkeley Capital, said:
This handover comes at a time when demand for affordable housing is high and there’s significant housing need across the borough. Delivering 46 homes for social rent is an important step, and it has only been possible through close collaboration with Haringey Council in bringing this complex brownfield site back into use.
Alexandra Gate is a long-term regeneration project, and while there is still much more to do, today’s milestone reflects the progress we can make when public and private sector partners work together with a clear shared purpose.
