Business rates summons and liability order

Part of: If you don't pay your business rates

Summons

A summons is sent if you have not paid enough business rates and did not bring your account up to date when we sent you a reminder or final notice.

If you pay the amount in full now (including the summons costs of £166) we will not obtain a liability order against you and you will not have to pay the liability order costs of £26.50.

If you cannot pay in full now, you can pay in instalments. There is an arrangement on the front of the summons that you've received. If you keep to this arrangement, we will still obtain a liability order against you but will not take any further action.

If you have a query or think that the summons is wrong, you can contact us using the button below:

Court sessions

If after contacting our office you still wish to talk to the magistrate you should contact us at least 1 week before the hearing date so we can arrange an appointment for you.

If a liability order is obtained and you have not kept to the payment plan or contacted business rates, your debt will be passed to an enforcement agency to collect without further notice.
