Haringey Learns is a council service which offers a wide range of adult education opportunities to residents designed to support personal growth, skills development, and career progression.
Haringey Council is the Data Controller for the personal data you provide when accessing adult learning services through Haringey Learns.

What information we collect

- name, date of birth, contact details
- National Insurance number
- education history and qualifications

- financial eligibility information

- assess eligibility for courses and funding
- monitor attendance and progress

Lawful basis for processing
We process your personal data under the following lawful bases:
- UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e) – Public task: delivering education and training services
- UK GDPR Article 6(1)(c) – Legal obligation: complying with education funding and reporting requirements
- UK GDPR Article 9(2)(g) – Substantial public interest: where special category data (e.g. health information) is processed to support learning needs
Who we share your data with
We may share your data with:
- Department for Education (DfE)
- Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA)
- partner organisations (e.g. employers, training providers)
- internal council departments (e.g. employment support, social care)
- Ofsted
Individualised Learner Record (ILR)
Publicly funded colleges, training organisations, local authorities, and employers (FE providers) must collect and return the data to the Department for Education each year under the terms of a funding agreement, contract or grant agreement. This helps ensure that public money is being spent in line with government targets. The data is also used for education, training, employment, and well-being purposes, including research.

How long we keep your data
We retain your personal data for up to 6 years after your last engagement with Haringey Learns, in line with funding and audit requirements. Special category data may be retained for shorter periods unless required by law.
Your rights
Under data protection law, you have rights over the handling and use of your personal data:
- You have the right to be informed about the collection and use of your personal data
- You have the right to access your personal data
- You have the right to have inaccurate information corrected
- You have the right to ask us to delete your data (in some circumstances)
- You have the right to ask us to stop using your data (in some circumstances)
- You have the right to data portability (in some circumstances)
- You have rights in relation to automated decision-making and to be informed about such decision-making
- If you have given us your consent to use your personal information, you have the right to withdraw it at any time
You also have the right to make a complaint to the council if you think we have not handled your personal data responsibly, and to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
