Haringey Council is the Data Controller for the personal data you provide when participating in public engagement activities hosted on the Haringey Engagement Hub, which is powered by Commonplace Digital Ltd.
Commonplace Digital Ltd acts as a data processor on behalf of Haringey Council for the purposes covered by this privacy notice.

Purpose of processing
We collect and process your personal data to:
- understand the views and needs of residents and stakeholders, and to meet our statutory duty to consult where applicable.
- inform policy development, service design, and decision-making.
- ensure inclusive and representative engagement across the borough and to meet our Public Sector Equality Duty.
Your responses to survey questions and your comments may be included in consultation reports. Please refer to the information about the specific consultation you are commenting on or speak to the engagement team if you have any questions about how your data will be used.
When you respond to a survey or submit comments via the Commonplace website, these are published online so please do not include any information in your responses that you do not wish to make public.
Lawful basis for processing
We process your personal data under the following lawful bases:
- UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e) – Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority.
- UK GDPR Article 9(2)(g) – For processing special category data (e.g. ethnicity, health) where necessary for reasons of substantial public interest, such as equality monitoring.
What Information We Collect
Depending on the specific engagement activity, we may collect:
- Your name and contact details
- Your address
- Your opinions, comments, and survey responses
- Demographic information (e.g. age, sex, ethnicity, disability status)
Providing demographic information is optional and used only for monitoring and analysis to improve inclusivity and representativeness of engagement.
How we collect your data
Data is collected when you use your Commonplace account to complete surveys or comment on projects on the Haringey Engagement Hub.
The Haringey team managing a specific project will also collect your data if you contact them direct or you participate in other consultation activities.
Data retention
Please refer to the specific consultation you have responded to for the retention period for that project.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of your data
- ask for correction of anything that is not accurate
- ask us to stop using your data (in some circumstances)
- ask us to delete your data (in some circumstances)
- withdraw your consent
You also have the right to make a complaint to the Council if you think we have not handled your personal data responsibly, and to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Officer.
