The controlled demolition of Tangmere is now almost complete. Sections of the building were removed piece-by-piece and broken down before removing the debris from the site.
The demolition work began on the south-west corner of the site, before continuing around the building. You will have seen larger sections of the building coming down over the last few months, starting with the dismantling of the top floors.
The front and middle sections of the building, where the mural stood, were the last part to be demolished. We have carefully removed the mural and stored it on the estate where it is currently being refurbished for future use.
We have had to pause the final demolition stages of Tangmere to allow UK Power Networks (UKPN) to divert significant cabling from within the site to the public highway. The cabling works are planned to start in January 2025 and should be complete by early spring 2025.
Once these essential works are finished, the controlled demolition will restart and will be completed by the summer of 2025. Pausing these works will not have any impact on the other major work projects on the estate.
We will provide you with the next steps for the construction phase once this stage is complete.
Thank you for your understanding with the increased noise and traffic around the site throughout the demolition of Tangmere.
