Demolition of Tangmere

Part of: Construction and improvement works

The controlled demolition of Tangmere is almost complete. The demolition work began in 2022 on the south-west corner of the site, before continuing around the building.

Sections of the building were removed piece-by-piece and broken down before removing the debris from the site. You will have seen larger sections of the building coming down, starting with the dismantling of the top floors.

The front and middle sections of the building, where the mural stood, were the last part to be demolished. We have carefully removed the mural and stored it on the estate where it is currently being refurbished for future use on the estate.

Demolition update

We have had to pause the final demolition stages of Tangmere to allow UK Power Networks (UKPN) to divert significant cabling from within the site to the public highway. The cabling works started in January 2025 and should be complete by March 2026.

Once these essential works are finished, the controlled demolition will restart and will be completed in early 2026. Pausing these works should not have any impact on the other major work projects on the estate.

Thank you for your understanding with the increased noise and traffic around the site throughout the demolition of Tangmere.
