Haringey youth: creativity and entrepreneurship at Rising Green Youth Hub
Rising Green Youth Hub in Wood Green recently hosted the 'Find your FLAARE: Entrepreneurship 101 Programme' – a 12-week initiative in collaboration with FLAARE (external link), a community organisation helping young people access creative opportunities and the UK dessert brand, Pleese (external link).
18 young people, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), participated in this intensive entrepreneurship programme. The programme covered business fundamentals with topics such as branding, marketing, profit and loss, and design through weekly workshops at Rising Green.
In November, these young entrepreneurs ventured to central London to pitch their ideas at the Avanade HQ office before a panel of experienced business professionals and corporate executives.
As a culmination of their 12-week journey, the young entrepreneurs showcased and sold the products they had created, pitched, and priced at the Festive Youth Market at Rising Green. Notable customers included Cllr Lester Buxton, Mayor of Haringey, Cllr Brabazon, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools, and Families and Cllr Ruth Gordan, Cabinet Member for Council House building, Placemaking, and Local Economy
Lindani Njie, Interim Youth Service Manager, who worked closely on the program, said:
"I am passionate about programmes that stretch and challenge our young people to dream fearlessly. The FLAARE entrepreneurship programme gave our young an opportunity to think outside the box, tap into their potential and give them the feel of ownership."
The success of the 2023 programme ensures that it will now be an annual event, providing access for more young people to be creative, think innovatively, and understand entrepreneurship.
