Learning Disability Week 2024

logo for Learning Disability WeekLearning Disability Week is held every year in the third week of June. It aims to raise awareness of life for those with a learning disability. This year's theme, "Do you see me?" focuses on challenging the barriers faced by people with learning disabilities.

To celebrate the week, we're sharing special events at Winkfield Resource Centre and other resources, activities and community groups to support people with learning disabilities, their parents, carers, and professionals throughout the year.


Events for 18+ at Winkfield Resource Centre

Throughout Learning Disability Week, Winkfield Resource Centre offers activities for everyone 18+. If you're under 18, you may attend with a parent/carer.

Music Therapy & Drumming

Learn about different types of anxiety and social phobias and how to use music to ground ourselves and manage anxiety.

Creating Stories

Use your imagination to create your own story. Storytelling is a powerful tool that can help individuals create a unique and memorable personal brand. It allows them to connect with others, build relationships and establish trust and credibility.

Dance Performance

A time to dance and relax with a dance performance by the Winkfield dance class.

Fundraising Day for Winkfield Community Pantry 

Support the community by donating to their community pantry! All activities start at £1. No booking in advance is needed. Just show up!

Activities include Tai Chi, Tombola, table tennis, Zumba, Darts, Henna, Pampering nail bar, face painting, yoga, games, and more!

Summer Disco

Enjoy a night out with friends, family, and carers, and dance the night away! Entry is £10, which includes one free drink.

#ActuallyHaringey - The Autism Hublogo for #actuallyharingey

#ActuallyHaringey supports autistic adults and those approaching adulthood with services, activities, and community events. They offer digital, online, and telephone support within a safe online community space. In-person events are held at the Chad Gordon Campus, 20B Waltheof Gardens, Tottenham N17 7HS.

The Autism Hub primarily supports adults and young adults aged 16+ who are or believe they may be autistic or neurodivergent. Individuals using these services may need to be independent to navigate them.

SEND Power Parent Carer Forum

SEND Power is a forum for parents and carers of children/young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). They support each other through events and activities and share their views with the council and other decision-makers to improve services for all SEND children and young people in the borough.


SEND Supported Internships 

A supported internship programme offers work-based learning for 17-to 25-year-olds with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).

New pre-internship programme for 17-19-year-olds with an EHCP.

We've partnered with The Grove School on a new pre-internship programme for 17-19-year-olds with an EHCP. This programme provides a bridge between college and employment, offering additional time to develop independence and work skills in preparation for an internship.
