Celebrating Pride and Disability Pride at Fortis Green Nursery
Fortis Green Nursery in Muswell Hill celebrated Pride Month with their children through various creative activities and events in June. They embraced Pride Month with engaging lessons, art projects and ended the month with their annual Pride Parade, where children, staff, and families came together to celebrate.
Celebrating Pride is an important part of the nursery's ethos. They celebrate and embrace all cultural events and festivities monthly, ensuring every child feels included and respected.
Their approach to teaching promotes diversity, equality, confidence, and high self-esteem, helping children become happy, confident learners who respect others.
As July marks Disability Pride Month, the nursery continues this work with planned activities and stories that foster understanding and acceptance of disability. These efforts are a natural extension of their everyday curriculum, aiming to ensure that all children grow up feeling valued and inclusive.
What is Disability Pride Month?
Disability Pride Month is observed in July to celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with disabilities and to promote awareness and acceptance. The Disability Pride Flag has a unique design with specific colours representing different aspects of disability pride:
- Red - Physical disabilities
- Gold - Neuro-divergence like autism and ADHD
- White - Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities
- Blue - mental illnesses
- Green - Sensory disabilities
